Cinematic Hit Points

What's in a pool of hit points? How do you make damage matter when a character can be just as effective at 1 HP or 100 HP? 

Cinematic Hit Points is a one-page, system-neutral TTRPG supplement that offers a drama-focused alternative to the "1 HP is still alive" mindset. 

By reaching certain HP percentages, a player triggers narrative prompts. Since these triggers do not inflict mechanical penalties, the CHP system adds flair and interest to HP-based combat while avoiding a death spiral.

To get the most out of this supplement, think of HP as the sum of a character's health - mental, physical, and emotional. You weather a dragon's fiery breath, but it slags the locket given to you by a long-lost love. A hidden trap mars your lovely face and puts you on a vendetta against its maker. In the heat of battle, you blame your dearest companion for your failures. Will you make it up to them, or are you too proud?
